Fave ironic ("meta") comeback songs: Jefferson Starship needed some "Miracles" to recapture the spotlight by 1975, just like Duran Duran's resigning to an "Ordinary World" saved them from said fate in 1992.
New to me this week: The Ace of Cups, the (inadvertently) all-female San Francisco psychedelic rock band of the late 1960s! You probably haven't heard of them -- they never signed to a music label at the time, or extensively toured. Unproduced, Ace of Cups sounded a bit raw, but so did Grand Funk before they signed I'm sure. Today, though, it's pretty soulful proto-punk. Times a changin'. ."Our brother bands, they were having children too. But they had wives and girlfriends -- they could still go out and play and tour."
Also live this week: Neko Case's soaring vocals (with just a hint of a Patsy Cline Virginia twang), Lincoln Theater Washington D.C., January 26. We couldn't take photos. As Neko sang:
